Hannah Daniel portrait photography in Cardiff.

I had the pleasure of photographing Hannah Daniel, a Cardiff-born actress known for her roles in Hinterland, Keeping Faith, Holby City and EastEnders.

The shoot took place at the home of Dylan Griffith in Cardiff Bay. Dylan is the Creative Director at Smörgåsbord, and the setting brought a relaxed, creative energy to the portraits.

The portraits were made for print and online, so the aim was to keep them honest and simple, strong light, real expression and a calm sense of character.

Behind the Portraits

My approach to photographing actors is about sensitivity and awareness. I listen, observe and let the person settle before I start shooting. The best portraits often come from moments in between, when the expression softens and the personality shows through.

At Dylan’s house, we used the natural flow of light through the space and mixed it with controlled lighting to shape the mood. The focus was on texture, tone and quiet strength. The result is a series of portraits that feel intimate yet composed, showing Hannah as both actor and individual.

The Approach

For me, portrait photography is about honesty. It’s about finding something real in the person in front of the camera and showing that with care and simplicity.

If you are looking for portrait photography in Cardiff or South Wales, or you are an actor or creative who needs updated headshots or editorial images, I’d love to collaborate.
